There are times when you need to rapidly expand the use of simulation within your company without the headaches of installing software on disparate machines. the Illinois Rocstar Simverse™ platform is a web-based, scientific simulation platform for running software on both public and private clouds. This enables users to exploit the convenience of custom, web-based interfaces for their favorite modeling and simulation tools in the cloud, then visualize and analyze the results with the tool’s native interface directly in their browser. We utilize modern web technologies to centralize and distribute advanced modeling and simulation tools to your staff, whether at their desk, in a meeting, or on the go with their smart device.

Simverse™ brings together multiple modeling and simulation software packages with a library and information management system that provides easy access and quality provenance. The field of computational science has reached a point where one of the biggest common challenges scientists face involves the volume of data to be stored and retrieved. The age of computational materials design is coming — that is, high throughput screening via computational tools will direct materials design and experiment. Illinois Rocstar is advancing cloud-based solutions to aid computational scientists by developing an infrastructure that integrates simulation capabilities, input data, and modeled and experimental results in a seamless and collaborative fashion.

The two faces of Simverse™, as a simulation platform and a data management system, present a bi-directional synergistic relationship in which Simverse™ datasets may be used for concurrent simulation and modeling with the results stored in the database/repository system. This relationship enables users to combine analysis and full utilization of experimental and computational data, with the overall benefit of improving the process by which materials properties are understood and optimized.

Simulation Platform

Simverse™ is a cloud-based platform for modeling and simulation using powerful, open-source scientific tools developed and hosted by Illinois Rocstar. Graphical interfaces to powerful serial or parallel simulation tools that will run on cloud hardware will be available. The goal of the website is to eliminate command line entry systems and reduce the burden of expensive computer hardware, allowing traditional and non-traditional computational endeavors to take advantage of advanced simulation tools. Users have access to a variety of interconnected tools and platforms without having to worry about configurations, which enables them to focus more closely on their research. This computing approach allows Simverse™ users to focus on science and materials development, regardless of the depth of their computational background.

Data Management

Simulation lifecycle management is beating heart of Simverse™. Our objective is to set standards for computational science data and metadata within a cloud-based framework to enable collaboration. Illinois Rocstar has designed Simverse™ to provide a space for scientists and engineers to archive and document their simulation datasets, including provenance information and output data that enables easy access to these results. Sharing data is paramount; granted permission, other researchers are also able to find and use myriad datasets, facilitating collaboration and strongly encouraging reuse of data. The data repository underlies the research management system that can automate aspects of scientific workflow.
